Yesterday we left Santiago to continue our journey southward. We hopped in an Uber and quickly learned the terrifying nature of being in a vehicle during rush hour in the middle of Santiago. Chilean drivers like to frequently communicate with their horns and don’t allow for a large margin of error when changing lanes or merging. As someone who tends to drive in a more grandmotherly fashion, I was certainly glad to be a passenger.
Without incident, our Uber driver got us safely to our intended destination: Wicked Campers. Ladies and gentlemen, please meet Michael Jackson, our traveling companion and home for the next five weeks.
We took MJ to the coast yesterday for our first night together and stayed at a campground just south of Pichilemu. This area is well-known for its surfing and has miles upon miles of gorgeous sandy beaches. We spent this morning walking along the beach near Punta de Lobos and managed to get adopted by a small dog who accompanied us during our stroll.
We’ll stay at the same campground again tonight and then have an early start tomorrow to make our way toward Villarrica. I have no doubt that MJ will continue to be the cause of more than a few glances along the way.
